Preface

The Matrix Club (UCL) and the West London Matrix Group Imperial College have amalgamated into the London Matrix Group.
Our aspiration is to create a forum for all groups involved in matrix research to meet on a monthly basis and thereby create more opportunities for collaboration and interaction. At the same time, a larger audience will improve our chances of attracting top speakers and better financial support.

The meetings alternate between the UCL and Imperial College Sites.
The meetings will continue to be held on or around the first Wednesday of each month.

The venues will be as follows:

UCL Site: Second Floor Seminar Room, Rayne Institute, 5 University Street, London. Nearest tube stations : Warren Street, Goodge Street and Euston Square. Imperial Site: Room 120, Sir Alexander Fleming Building (building number 5 on the map), Imperial College Road, London. Nearest tube stations: South Kensington.

Meetings will be for one hour seminar starting at 17.15 Followed by cheese and wine. Discussions are frequently continued in the local pub. All are welcome! .

We would also like to inform you that as part of our commitment to the training of young researchers in the London colleges, two slots per year are to be held open to enable PhD students and junior post-docs to present what for most may be their first official research seminar. It is anticipated that each slot will be filled by 2-3 twenty-minute presentations from researchers who should probably be at least at the end of their second PhD year. We should therefore like to encourage you to submit the names of any students who may be suitable in your department/centre via email to: George Bou-Gharios (g.gharios@imperial.ac.uk.)

Please be sure to include a provisional title. We should also similarly like to encourage you to put forward suggestions for future speakers via the same email. Finally, we would also like to encourage researchers from other London-based laboratories to join us in this exiting new venture. If you are interested in joining us, please contact one of us by email or talk to us directly at the next meeting.
